A butterfly landing on a flower. An old man sitting in the park feeding the birds. A Pastor preaching during Sunday worship. The sun setting over the fence in my backyard. Kids playing together while their parents bar-b-que in the yard. A musician playing at a jazz club. The colors of the rainbow after a long rain storm. My people fighting for justice and equality. A mother and father holding their new born. These things I see as the colors of life and life itself is art. God was the first artist. He created the world full of living beings, colors and shapes. He has presented a canvas which we call earth so we can create or try to duplicate what he has given us. At the age of eight, I started to finally realize that my gift from God was all around, So I picked up a pencil and started to draw. I drew the bugs crawling on the concrete, Tony the tiger from my cereal box and all of the Disney characters that I could find a picture of. I became one of the Senior advertisement artists in High School. Entering and winning awards at Triton College and The Museum of Science and Industry in 1981 and 1982 and head University showcase events artist while in College.
In 2017 I started my own art business under the name dLArt. dLArt became a way to showcase my talent as an artist using oil, acrylic, charcoal and color pencils to create special pieces and designs. My company is structured so that I can donate a percentage of each art pieces sold under the dLArt brand to charity. I now can reflect as I look around the pieces hung in my gallery that God has blessed me with this great talent and he have given me permission to use his canvas to create life in the form of art.
God Bless,
Donovan Lewis
